Westchester Residents Can Register Now for Red Cross Winter Safety School

(December 9, 2003) The approach of a cold Westchester
winter also brings the life-saving benefits of the American
Red Cross in Westchester County's Winter Safety School. Thirty-three
courses will be offered at the Red Cross in White Plains and
at six other locations across Westchester including: Infant/Child
CPR, Adult CPR, Lifeguard Training, Pet First Aid for Dogs
and Cats, Preventing Disease Transmissions, First Aid Basics,
and Community Water Safety.
Tuition ranges from $30 for a two-hour Preventing
Disease Transmission class to $350 for 56 hours of lifeguard
instructor training. Classes will begin December 22 and will
end on January 20.
"These winter safety courses are being offered to help
meet the
needs of the community for health and safety training and
for people who
aren't able to attend summer classes," said Suzann Boyar,
the local Red
Cross' Health and Safety Specialist.
The Red Cross is also offering courses for the professional
rescuer
and for those who are interested in becoming instructors and
have met
certain prerequisites. Instructor courses offered are Water
Safety
Instructor, Lifeguarding Instructor, Waterfront Lifeguard
Instructor,
CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor, Babysitters'
Training
Instructor, and First Aid & CPR Instructor.
"Dry-land" courses will be held at the Red Cross'
Chapter offices in
White Plains at 106 North Broadway. Aquatics courses will
be offered at
Durland Scout Center, Marymount College, Pace University,
SUNY Purchase, Westchester Community College and Boys and
Girls Club of Northern Westchester.
