(October 10, 2003) The Mamaroneck varsity football team, playing its first home night game in over 50 years, left no doubt about the outcome as the Tigers defeated visiting Lincoln High School 39-12 in front of an estimated 3,000 plus faithful Tiger fans for Homecoming 2003 on October 4. The evening also marked the 25th anniversary of the 1978 "Dream Team", the last undefeated football team at MHS. In addition to being introduced prior to the game, the Dream Team players lined the middle of the field as the current Tiger players were introduced for the coin toss.

"What a fantastic night," said coach Harry Peterson. "This is what football games are supposed to like ... lights, cool weather and lots and lots of fans. It's just really nice to see such a tremendous turnout." The Tigers needed a strong showing after last week's heart breaking loss to Roosevelt HS late in the 4th quarter. Peterson was happy to see his team clicking on all cylinders. "Our offense played very well and it showed on the scoreboard. We made some adjustments during the week and the kids responded as we expected them to."

Senior wingback Sean McGee led the Tiger offensive charge with 137 punt return yards on just three attempts, the final one resulting in Mamaroneck's final touchdown. "What can I say?" commented Peterson. "Sean did a super job returning the football." James Comblo also contributed to the Tiger offense by completing 9 of 13 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown to senior tight end Scott Smith.

Mamaroneck's defense was once again stingy, limiting the Lancers to just 179 yards of total offense. Senior linebacker Matt Vitti returned to action for several plays at linebacker as part of his continuing rehabilitation of a knee injury suffered earlier in the season versus Mt. Vernon.

With the combination of Homecoming and the 1st night game in 50 years, the evening included many extras on top of the actual game. The Tiger cheerleaders performed flawlessly during halftime, the Force dazzled spectators with their combination of energetic drumming and fancy footwork, and the Mamaroneck Midget Football League, players & cheerleaders, were introduced prior to the start of the 3rd quarter.

The team returns to action Saturday, October 11 when they travel to New Rochelle HS for a 1:30pm contest.
