Mamaroneck Pre-Teens Just Want to Have Fun
Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Programs

(October 8, 2003) What’s happening for local pre-teens? The Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department has a roster of activities specifically targeted for that age group this Fall. During the week or on the weekends, there are casual social events and scheduled athletic classes or team sports.

Here’s a sampler from the Rec Department:

Pizza Bingo - children in Grades 3 to 6 can meet their friends and enjoy a slice of pizza, soda and snacks along with an evening of Bingo on Fridays in the Community Room of the Hommocks Park Ice Rink starting on October 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Registration is limited, so sign up early.

Dolphins Pre Swim Team - for children who have progressed out of Youth Swim Lessons, but aren’t ready for the competitiveness of the swim team. Children must be able to swim one lap of the pool and be water safe. The Dolphin Program meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 6:45 pm starting on October 15th. The fee is $140. Pool permit required.

Mamaroneck Swim Club is comprised of two levels:

Sharks - for ages 11 and under or by ability at the coach’s discretion. Participants must be able to swim all competitive strokes and swim for an hour workout. The Sharks meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 7:15 pm.

Barracudas - for ages 9 and over or by ability at coach’s discretion. Participants must be able to swim all 4 competitive strokes and swim for an hour workout. The Barracudas meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:15 to 8:30 pm.

Children participating on the Mamaroneck Swim Club are required to have a valid pool pass and attend at least two practices each week. The fee for both Sharks and Barracudas is $275.

The Hommocks Park Ice Rink has opened for the 2003-2004 skating season. Public sessions are:

Mondays 12:30 to 2:30 pm
Tuesdays 1:00 to 5:15 pm
Thursdays 1:00 to 5:15 pm
Fridays 1:00 to 5:15 pm & 7:15 to 9:15 pm
Saturdays 1:00 to 5:15 pm
Sundays 11:00 am to 5:15 pm

Introduction to Hockey - this free clinic is designed for children who have never played hockey but are interested in being part of our House League Program. Beginning Wednesday, October 15th from 4:15 to 5:15 pm, children will be given the opportunity to be on the ice with our coaching staff to experience the thrills of the game and the importance of being part of a team.

House League Hockey - for ages 5 to 12 years. Our House League Hockey Program gives children the opportunity to learn the rules and strategies of the game of ice hockey in a well supervised and safe environment.

How to Sign Up For Recreation Programs

Where: Sign up for these or other recreation programs at the Mamaroneck Town Center at 740 W. Boston Post Road.

When: The Recreation Department is open for sign-ups Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to noon and 2:00 to 4:00 pm; and Wednesday evenings 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Bring: 2 proofs of residency in the Town of Mamaroneck and cash or check for payment.

Pool Permits: Pool permits require a photo identification that can be obtained from the Recreation Department on Monday through Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and Wed evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
