Elections are held at each school, but in a
location separate from the school budget and board vote.
With the exception of Mamaroneck Avenue
School,
where
three
candidates
ran for
three positions, this year, there were more candidates than
open seats. At their meeting on June 16, the Selection Committee elected
Syl Morrone to serve as the interim Chairperson. There will
be another vote in the fall when the new committee reconvenes.
The Selection Committee
is an independent, non-partisan organization that
recruits, screens and endorses candidates for the Mamaroneck
School Board.
The Committee holds its elections concurrently with the School
Board and
School Budget vote. Members are elected
by the public to
serve three-year terms. The committee is comprised of twenty-four
members,
six members from each of the four elementary school district
zones in the
Town of Mamaroneck. Candidates for the School Board are not
required to seek
the Selection Committee's endorsement in order to run.
Anyone interested in more information should contact Bonnie
Beck, (834-1706 or BMR54@aol.com).
The only membership requirements are that you be a U.S.
citizen and a registered voter in the school district.
