Vintage Kidz: New Consignment Store with Upscale Feel
by Judy Silberstein
Vintage Kidz, newly open at 2124 Boston Post Road, looks
more like an upscale children’s boutique than a consignment
store. The carousel-style rocking horse by the front door
would be at home in the most luxurious nursery, as would
the customized rocking chairs and mirrors found throughout
the store. There’s a range of clothing and shoes for
newborns up to size 16 – and only the prices are cheap.
Proprietor Janet Lukaswitz believes the market is ripe for
her kind of store, because of the current economy. “People
have multiple kids – this is more affordable,” she
said.
“It’s fun,” she declared. “You’re
digging for something unexpected.”
She and other family members have been gathering children’s
clothes and paraphernalia for months. Before opening the
store, they would sell their wares at weekend sales throughout
the state. Now, they’re settling down in Larchmont
in the same location of a previous consignment store, the
Children’s Exchange.
In addition to clothes, there are baby seats and equipment,
crib comforters, toys, games, and books. Most of the items
are lightly used or new.
Lukaswitz advised, “Stop by often and see what treasures
you will find! New items are arriving daily.”
The shop décor reflects the talents of artist Mary
Parravani, who also decorates the hand-painted rockers and
other new items for sale in the store.
On Saturday, August 1, Vintage Kidz held its grand opening.
Sponge Bob greeted shoppers who were treated to free ice
cream and face painting. But the main event seemed to be
the clothes and the low prices.
