100 Years of Musicals:
Chatsworth Revue Open
to All on June 18 & 19
by Juliet Lesser
(June 17, 2003) Each spring the local community is treated
to an innovative musical revue by some of the youngest performers
at Chatsworth
Avenue School. This year students from Nancy Stamegna’s Kindergarten
are teaming with Joan Ganfuss’ second graders to present “A Salute to Chatsworth: 100 Years,” a revue of musical
selections from shows performed over the last one hundred years at the school.
The students will be belting out songs from theatrical musicals
such as “Cinderella,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Annie,” “The
Sound of Music,” and “South Pacific.” The
first letter of each title will spell out CHATSWORTH.
The revue was conceived, written and directed by second
grade teacher Joan Gansfuss as part of the ongoing Chatsworth
Centennial celebration. The music and accompaniment are under
the direction of Judy O’Savio, Chatsworth’s music
teacher, and Kindergarten teacher Nancy Stamegna. Parents
of the performers have lent a hand with scenery, costumes,
and production.
The revue features forty-one students singing, dancing,
and speaking various roles. The show will be performed on
Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at 10:00 am and on Thursday, June
19, 2003 at 7:00pm with a cast party to follow. Families,
friends, and community members are welcome to either performance
free
of charge in the John Madey auditorium at the Chatsworth
Avenue School.
