Revolutionary War Comes Alive at
Mamaroneck's Historic Harbor Street Fair June 8
from the Historic Harbor Street Fair
(May
23, 2003) The sounds of musket and cannon fire will once
again ring in Mamaroneck as members of the British Brigade and
the Brigade of the American Revolution,
a non-profit living history association dedicated to recreating the life and
times of the common soldier of
the Revolutionary War,
re-enact of the Skirmish of Heathcote Hill as part of Mamaroneck’s Historic
Harbor Street Fair to be held on Sunday, June 8.
The group was founded in 1977 to take part in reenactments
of the American Revolution and maintains a strict goal of
authenticity. The Skirmish of Heathcote Hill in
Mamaroneck was a delaying action by General Washington in his retreat from
New York, which allowed his main army to establish new defensive
positions in the
City of White Plains.
Visitors to the Fair will experience what an authentic
military encampment was like during the Revolutionary War,
including tactical exercises, firelock
shooting
competition and more.
Other events planned during the Fair include 3 tall sailing ships in Mamaroneck
harbor, a re-creation of a 1940’s USO canteen, a tribute to Mamaroneck’s
golden silent movies era and a historical view of Mamaroneck through a collection
of vintage photographs. There will be strolling performers, live music and
games, along with booths and exhibitions featuring a wide variety of entertainment,
food, art and antiques.
The Fair will run from 11am to 4pm and will feature
a large number of events and programs, which will be both entertaining
and educational – emphasizing
the richness of Mamaroneck’s diverse culture and its fascinating
history.
