Julie Gale Opens Special Education Practice:
Unraveling the Mysteries of Special Education
Press Release from Julie Gale
(April 4, 2003)The fact is that most children have difficulty
in school; some in certain subject areas, some in many areas,
some for
short periods of time, and others for years on end. The hard
part for parents and teachers is determining when difficulty
becomes disability.
We all want children to succeed, but unraveling the mystery
of what is holding a child back can often be a frustrating
and lonely experience. The goal for
parents and schools is successful learning, and yet it is a complicated process
to determine what kind of help a child needs and how to access it.
This emotional and complex problem is hard to navigate
alone. That is why, as a certified Social Worker
with 15 years of experience in the
area of
learning disabilities, I have opened a private practice in Larchmont.
As a parent of two learning disabled children, I discovered
first-hand how much I
had to learn to help my children receive the help they needed.
As co-president of the Special Education PTA for the Mamaroneck
School District for 2001-2 and 2002-3, I was able to
study the complexities
of special
education in general, and in the Mamaroneck School District, in particular.
With this
knowledge and my own personal experience as a social worker and parent,
my
practice will be focused on advising parents of children with learning
differences.
This private practice will help parents define their children’s
needs, encourage better school relations, prepare parents
for the Committee on Special
Education meetings, and make professional referrals, when necessary.
My
philosophy is to encourage communication and cooperation between the
parents and the school system.
