(November 5, 2002) Less than one hour after the polls closed tonight, Ron Tocci waded through a cheering crowd of supporters in the Flint Park American Legion Hall to announce victory in the State Assembly race. "I just had a call from Noam Bramson," he said, "And our victory was bigger than he had anticipated." The crowd erupted with cries of "Tocci, Tocci, Tocci!"

Asked why he thought he'd beaten his young challenger to win a tenth term, Tocci said, "People truly understood what we stand for, and all we had to do was to make sure they did. We want to represent all the people and do what's right for them."

Tocci made veterans' affairs central to his campaign, and one local veteran showed his support tonight. "I'm a Vietnam veteran, and Ron's always done a lot for us," said Dario Castellano, past commander of the American Legion of New Rochelle.

"He's the people's assemblyman," said Joe Sayegh of New Rochelle. "He's always represented all of the people."

Tocci, who ran as a Republican after Bramson won the Democratic primary, has continually reminded voters he will remain a Democrat.

Unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections:
