New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Endorses Bramson
Cites Bramson’s Common Sense Solutions to Gun Control

Press Release

( October 31, 2002 ) Citing Noam Bramson’s pledge to be a strong advocate for gun safety laws, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV) endorsed Bramson for the State Assembly. “We need Noam Bramson in Albany,” said Andy Pelosi, Executive Director of NYAGV. “Mr. Bramson will protect our families and communities by fighting for common sense gun safety measures, including a state-wide child access prevention law, standards for child safety locks, tougher restrictions on gun trafficking, better background checks for rifles and long guns, and other priorities important to New Yorkers.”

“I am honored to receive NYAGV’s endorsement,” said Bramson. “I look forward to working with NYAGV and other gun safety advocates to protect New York’s families.”

Bramson’s opponent, Assemblyman Ron Tocci, has received $1500 in campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association, including $250 as recently as 2000. At the same time, Mr. Tocci voted repeatedly against banning assault weapons, against requiring two forms of ID for the purchase of a shotgun or rifle, against raising the minimum age for a firearm license to 21, and against restricting sales at gun shows to licensed dealers.

In an October 29th League of Women Voters debate in New Rochelle, Tocci stated that he had voted for “all reasonable” gun control laws in Albany. NYAGV’s endorsement of Bramson demonstrates that the leading gun control advocates in New York have a very different view of the Assemblyman’s record.

“Unlike my opponent, I will be a leader on gun safety issues and I would never accept even a penny from the National Rifle Association,” added Bramson.
