Town GOP for Tocci This Time
by Judy Silberstein
( October 6, 2002) According to Don Derrico, Chairperson
of the Town of Mamaroneck Republican Party, "The
Committee strongly supports Ron Tocci. We believe that
his experience and commitment make him the ideal candidate."
In previous assembly races, Mr. Tocci has run as a
Democrat. "We've never been asked to endorse him
before," said Derrico. He added, "When Mr.
Tocci has run against Republican candidates, obviously
we supported the party's candidate."
As a rule, the Village of Larchmont Republicans do
not get involved in other levels of elections, explained
party Chairperson Marian White. "I urge people
to meet both candidates and inform themselves."
White commented on the advantages of elections where
the candidates are accessible to voters and can be observed
at local debates.
The Town and Village Republican parties made no public
endorsements during the primary phase of the election
when Ron Tocci and Noam Bramson were vying to be the
Democratic candidate for the 91st Assembly position
in the November election. The local Republican office
holders also stayed out of the race. The Town Democratic
party and each of the Democratic office holders in the
Town and the Village endorsed Noam Bramson. As the victor
in the primary, Bramson is now running on the Democratic
line and Tocci is running on the Republican, Conservative,
Independence and Working Party lines.
