Clinton and Spano Announce for Bramson
And Schumer and Spitzer Switch to Bramson

by Judy Silberstein

( September 17, 2002) One week after winning the Democratic primary on September 10, Noam Bramson has picked up a number of influential endorsements in his campaign to become the New York State Assemblyman for the 91st district.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey and County Executive Andrew Spano will be serving as Co-Chairs of his campaign. Prior to September 10, pictures of Congresswoman Lowey had appeared in Mr. Bramson's campaign material, but she had not formally announced an endorsement. At this point, she is openly supporting Bramson who has worked in her campaigns and as her speech writer for the past ten years. Mr. Spano also made no endorsement during the primary race, but is now playing a role in Mr. Bramson's campaign.

Other major new support for Bramson comes from U.S. Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer and New York Attorney General Eliot Spitze. In the case of Senator Clinton, this is her first public endorsement in the 91st Assembly race. However, it was less than two weeks ago when Schumer and Spitzer first waded into the race - and that was on the Tocci side (See 9/04/2002 Spitzer and Schumer for Tocci). Now that Bramson has bested Tocci, 62% to 38%, these two Democrats have shifted their support to the winner of the Democratic primary. For a complete list of New York leaders who have just announced support for Bramson, see the 9/17/2000 press release.

Mr. Tocci is continuing to run for the State Assembly, but he will not appear on the Democratic line on the November ballots. Early in the primary race, he chose to accept endorsements from the Republican, Conservative, Independence, and Working Families Parties and will be appearing on their lines. (See Republicans Endorse Tocci.) At that point, many Larchmont and Mamaroneck Democratic leaders denounced Tocci's relationship with the Republicans and threw their support behind Bramson. (See Democratic Leaders Denounce Tocci.)
