Tocci Working Hard to Reduce Hate
Crimes
( August 21, 2002
) Assemblyman Ron Tocci is working hard to reduce the
incidence of crimes motivated by hate or bias. In 2002,
he:
- Voted for the Dignity for All Students Act (A.2634)
- which would prohibit harassment or discrimination
of a student on school grounds based on race, ethnic
origin, religion, disability gender or sexual orientation.
The bill fosters civility among students and between
students and teachers. As a father of two and member
of the Assembly Education Committee, Ron Tocci understands
how important it is to create a school atmosphere where
learning is paramount and distractions to learning are
minimized.
- Voted for a bill (A.8919) that requires state colleges
to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding
bias related crimes and bias related violations.
- Authored a bill (A.1556) that would require persons
who have been convicted of a hate or bias crime to participate
in sensitivity training, a cultural awareness program
or perform community service as part of their sentencing.
- Supports two bills (A.8481and A.11013) that would
provide additional funds to the Division of Human Rights
and reform the discrimination claim process for the
purpose of reducing the 6 year backlog of claims, providing
swifter justice to victims of discrimination.
On SONDA, we're talking about a handful of votes out
of over 30,000 cast by the Assemblyman over his 18 years
in Albany, during which time he has a better than 99%
voting record in agreement with his fellow Democrats.
Without a doubt, Ron Tocci is very in touch with Democrats
and his constituents.
