Tocci Blasts Bramson Record on Environment
Cites Votes On IKEA and David’s Island

( August 7, 2002) Assemblyman Ronald C. Tocci (D-New Rochelle) called into serious question claims made by his opponent on environmental issues.

“My opponent has a terrible record on the environment,” said Tocci. “He was a chief proponent of the IKEA megastore project and voted repeatedly to harm the character of David’s Island. He was nothing more than a ‘rubber stamp’ for these misguided projects and he clearly put the interests of corporate developers above the people he claims to represent.”

Tocci slammed recent campaign mailings by Bramson touting his environmental record. “He is clearly misleading voters regarding David’s Island, when in 1998 and again in 1999 he voted for development plans that included a vehicular bridge. His campaign mailings are an affront to those of us who fought vehemently to preserve the character of David’s Island and I am calling on him to renounce his statements immediately.”

Tocci cited his endorsement by the New York League of Conservation Voters as a clear indication that he is someone who can be counted on to do the right thing for the environment.

“Unlike my opponent, I have a proud environmental record. The endorsement by the New York League of Conservation Voters, the state’s premiere environmental advocacy group, is a testament to my dedication and effectiveness in working to preserve and protect the Sound Shore environment. I fought against IKEA and carried the legislation that insisted on David’s Island being protected from over development and vehicular traffic. My opponent, by contrast, sat in silence and waited until it was clear that we were going to win these battles and then claimed he was with us.”
