Larchmont Historical Society Pledges
$25K for Manor Inn Purchase
by Judy Silberstein
( September 10, 2002) President of the Larchmont Historical
Society Fred Baron announced late Tuesday evening that
the Larchmont Historical Society has pledged $25,000
to Belvedere Properties for the purchase of the Manor
Inn.
Baron stated, "I am proud that the Larchmont Historical
Society Board of Directors has unanimously decided to
pledge $25,000 to Belvedere Property, Inc. to be used
for the purchase and renovation of the Manor Inn. The
Society hopes that
this contribution will provide an impetus for other
individuals, companies,
and organizations in our community to make significant
contributions to this
effort to save an irreplaceable part of Larchmont's
heritage."
The Historical Society has been involved in seeking
ways to preserve the Manor Inn building and has been
collaborating with the group of citizens organized for
that purpose. Belvedere Properties is the name attached
to the fund raising effort by a group of citizens known
as the Manor Inn Steering Committee. They are working
on plans to purchase the building and keep it going
as affordable housing for senior citizens.
The decision was announced following a lengthy meeting
of the Historical Society. There was extensive discussion
before the board voted unanimously to make the pledge.
