Larchmont Democrats Show Their Strength
Press Release
(
December 11, 2002) Larchmont Democrats were overwhelmed
by the turnout for their first ever holiday party held
December 8 at the Larchmont home of Harri Taranto and
Anne Engelland. “We didn’t expect such a
large turnout,” said Carol Miller, co-chair of
the Larchmont Democratic Committee. “Over 150
people came out, confirming our belief that Larchmont
Democrats do have a strong commitment to their party.”
Nita Lowey, one of the speakers for the evening, was
also impressed by the turnout. She noted that on a national
level as well, the Democrats are starting to get their
message across again. Other speakers included: Andy
Spano, George Latimer, Suzi Oppenheimer and Larchmont
trustee, Marlene Kolbert.
Prominent local Democrats at the event included: Larchmont
Village Justice Jerry Bernstein, former Larchmont Village
Trustees Anne McAndrews, Mary Ann Mumma and Judy O’Gorman,
former Larchmont Mayors Miriam Curnin and Cheryl Lewy,
and new Larchmont Village Democratic Co-Chairs Carol
Miller and Dorothea Constas Rubin.
“This evening was particularly gratifying given
the low voter turnout in the last election. We plan
to use this momentum as we enter the campaign season
for the two Village Trustee seats and one of the two
Village Judgeships to be contested in March 2003,”
said Dorothea Constas Rubin, “We are about to
have our caucus and are excited about putting forward
some very strong candidates.
