Hommocks Students Fete Local Seniors
by Judy Silberstein
(
November 25, 2002) Senior citizens from around Larchmont
and Mamaroneck filled the newly renovated Hommocks library
for an early Thanksgiving celebration on Monday, November
25. The Hommocks students greeted, served and entertained
seniors from the Mamaroneck Senior Center, Larchmont
Senior Center, St. Augustine’s Senior Citizen
Group and the Sarah Neumann Nursing Home. The guests
dined on traditional Thanksgiving fare donated by Boston
Market and by the Hommocks students themselves.
"It was completely wonderful," said Jo Powers
a member of the Larchmont Senior Center who has attended
a number of previous holiday events. "Everything
was great - the food was great and the people were very
pleasant." She summed up, "It was a lovely,
lovely afternoon."
The holiday luncheon is an annual tradition at the
Hommocks, though each year the students work hard to
add a different creative touch. For this year, the entertainment
was both musical and magical. The seniors were treated
to performances by the student Jazz Band, Choir and
Magic Club.
The Hommocks Student Council assumes responsibility
for the Thanksgiving event, with help from their faculty
advisors, Marla Kreiness, Kerry Librandi and Pedro Johnson.
They reported, "The Hommocks students have been
working hard to make this event fun and are excited
to be giving back to the community."
