LARCHMONT THEN AND NOW:
Larchmont Avenue Church
by Anne Marie Leone

The Larchmont Avenue Church was founded in 1914 by Miss Emily Earle Lindsley under the auspices of the Presbytery of Westchester, but it has always beeen a community church patronized by Protestants of many sects. Ground was broken in 1915 on land at the corner of Larchmont and Forest Park avenues; the basement was dug and covered with a shingled half-story. No further building was possible until 1925, when the Parish House was built, followed in 1930 by the sanctuary, designed by Larchmont resident Otto Egeers, a member of the architectural firm of John Russell Pope. Deep in the Depression, the congregation met the mortgage payments by means of donations of jewelry, silverware, and gold eyeglass frames.
