LARCHMONT THEN AND NOW:
The Belvedere
by Anne Marie Leone
Judith Doolin Spikes

The Belvedere, at 7 Prospect Avenue, was named for its "capacious towers from which unobstructed views of Long Island Sound may be obtained." It was built in the spring of 1893 for George Chatterton, a New York City hotelier. In the early years, it was open only from Memorial to Labor Day. Vacationing heads of household commuted daily, while their wives and children enjoyed the beach and Manor Park throughout the season. Since 1954, renamed the Manor Inn, it has served as a residential hotel for seniors.
